Coast Guard celebrates ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’

The Coast Guard celebrated the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ with a ‘run for unity’ , planting saplings, and taking unity pledge across all units in the State on Thursday. Participants took part in the 10-km run from Panambur beach to Chitrapura beach in the city. Lal Goel, chairman of Organ Donation India Foundation, flagged it off.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Goel said that Sardar Patel had played a crucial role during the freedom struggle and after Independence as he was instrumental in the integration of over 500 princely States into the Indian Union. S.S. Dasila, Commander, Indian Coast Guard, Karnataka, highlighted his struggles and achievements.

The ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ pledge was administered to all participants by Deputy Commandant Rajkumar, a release said. The event was supported by Rotary Club Moodbidri.

Postal employees

Employees of Mangaluru division of the Department of Posts also took out a unity walk in the city on Thursday.

In Udupi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a run for unity. Nalin Kumar Kateel, State president of the party, launched the run from Hejamady Toll Gate. K. Raghupati Bhat, V. Sunil Kumar, Lalaji R. Mendon, MLAs, were present.
