City boy for Mathematics Olympiad

Mangaluru boy Aditya Prakash will be among the six students from India to take part in the International Mathematics Olympiad to be held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, between July 17 and 23.

Prakash, who has undergone training at the Centre for Advanced Learning here, first wrote the Regional Mathematics Olympiad.

He was among the 300 students across the country who wrote the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad. Then Prakash qualified for the training camp at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education.

From among the trainees, Prakash made it to the national team for the International Mathematics Olympiad.

Nearly 400 students from 100 countries will participate in the event.

Severine Rosario, CFAL Programme Coordinator, said that this was the first time in the last 21 years that a student from the State was on the Indian team to International Mathematics Olympiad.

Prakash is the son of Prathima and Om Prakash Barnval. Prakash did his Class 12 under the National Institute of Open Schooling, an open schooling board.

He has secured admission in the prestigious Chennai Mathematical Institute.
