Children’s play area, open gym among facilities inaugurated at Kadri Park

The new walkway that was inaugurated at Kadri Park in Mangaluru on Friday.

A walking track relaid with interlocks and kerbs, a mud walking track, an open gym and a play area for special children were inaugurated at Kadri Park on Friday.

The facilities have been created at an estimated cost of ₹1.16 crore by drawing funds from the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme by Mangaluru City Corporation.

The fund has also been used to erect a ring fence around Gangana Palla, a waterbody in the park. In addition, 24 children’s playing equipment have been installed in the park. Speaking on the occasion, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mayor Bhaskar K., and MLA for Mangaluru South D. Vedavyasa Kamath, asked Horticulture Department officials to maintain the facilities well.

Ranganath Nayak, superintending engineer and Deputy Commissioner (Development) at the corporation, said that in addition to the facilities created at Kadri Park, the corporation has developed three more parks in the city under the AMRUT scheme. Regent Park at Surathkal has been renovated at an estimated cost of ₹10 lakh, Kunjathbail Park has been developed at a cost of ₹15 lakh, and Krishnapura Park at Surathkal has been renovated using ₹59 lakh.

A note given by the corporation on the occasion mentioning details of the projects taken up under AMRUT scheme said the corporation would replace the collapsed manholes on the underground drainage network under the first phase of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan, mainly in Surathkal area. In addition, ₹52.66 crore will be spent on replacing the manholes and trunk lines of the UGD network in Sulthan Bathery, Kulur, Marigudi, Urwa, Ashoknagara, Bunder, Kandathpalli, Lower Bendor, Valencia, Suterpete, and Bappal areas. The manholes will be rebuilt using reinforced concrete.
