D.V. Suresh, younger brother of Union Railways Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, who serves as Senior Station Master at Nandikur railway station in Udupi district, on Tuesday described the first railway budget present by his elder brother as a “visionary and long-term budget.”

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Suresh said that the railway budget presented by Mr. Gowda had given importance to providing safety and better amenities for the passengers.

Though the Union Railway Ministry had recently hiked passenger ticket fares by 14.2 per cent, this was being utilised to provide better facilities for them, he said.

The budget had given importance to elimination of unmanned railway crossings and provided for construction of road over-bridges and under-bridges.

This would go a long way in preventing railway related accidents.
