Budding Arabic teachers upbeat at graduation day

Dilshad’s eyes sparkled as she received her diploma in Arabic language from the Hyderabad-based Muslim Educational Social and Cultural Organisation in Udupi on Saturday.

She was among the 23 students from Hyderabad and Mangalore who completed their 8-month diploma and turned out for the first graduation day of the Hidayah-MESCO Arabic Academy. The course is offered by the Academy in the two cities but the graduation day was held here.

Placement

Fathima, teacher, said that all the students except two, got placements in local schools.

“There is dearth lack of Arabic teachers in India. Many people speak Arabic but are unable to understand the true meaning of the Quran, so these graduates can educate society,” she said.

One of the graduates showed her prowess at the ceremony by translating Arabic text into English, Kannada, Urdu, and Beary, and fielded questions on different aspects of grammar. Halima Nuzahath, a student who got the first prize in translation from Arabic to English said, “We learn Arabic grammar, translation and

tajveed (pronunciation). We are also taught teaching methodology, psychology, computer, personality development and English with the help of experts and presentations”.
