BSP stages dharna, seek land for the landless

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here on Friday demanding land for the landless in the district. Speaking on the occasion, Uday Kumar Tallur, BSP leader, said that since the government had accepted the V. Balasubramanian Committee Report, it was incumbent upon it get the encroached land cleared and distribute it to the poor members of the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and minority communities.

All the applications given by poor families from 1991 to 1999 for land regularisation should be accepted by the government. These families should be given title deeds.

Some land owners had land in excess of the ceiling limit prescribed by the government. These excess pieces of land should be confiscated by the government and distributed to the landless families.

The government should take immediate steps to set up Land Regularisation Committees and Land Tribunals at the district-level.

Nearly 80 per cent of villages did not have proper crematoriums. The government should take steps to provide crematoriums in all the villages.

The British government of India had reserved land in all districts for the depressed classes in 1861. These lands should be provided to the members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The government should immediately undertake survey of 400 acres reserved for Dalits at Mudur village in Kundapur taluk and distribute them to Dalits. Hundreds of acres of land in the district had been encroached in the district. These pieces of land should be identified and given to the landless.

The tribal families living in the forests should given land in the forests, Mr. Tallur said.
