Bantwal students make it to State-level science exhibition

There were 2,076 science models exhibited at the event from various schools of Dakshina Kannada district

A project 'The power of the mighty sun' prepared by children from Carmel Girls High School at Modankap in Puttur near Mangalore that has gained entry at a State-level exhibition.

Two children from Dakshina Kannada district have been selected for participation at the State-level in a science exhibition, said a press release from the school.

The two schoolchildren, from Carmel Girls’ High School, Modankap, Bantwal taluk, had participated in the Dakshina Kannada District Level ‘Inspire’ Award Science organised by the Department of Public Instruction and the Regional Science Centre, Pilikula.

The event was held for all higher primary and high school students from July 3 to 9 at Pilikula. There were 2,076 science models exhibited at the event from various schools of Dakshina Kannada district.

The science model presented by Dafny D’Souza was titled “An Eye on the Moon”. It was about information on Chandrayaana-2. She said she had started preparing the model in March with help from her science teacher, Roshan Pinto.

She told The Hindu : “I didn’t know much about Chandrayaana. After this project, I learnt more about it.”

Sowndharya had presented at the exhibition a science model titled “The power of the mighty sun”. It was a working model on solar devices. She said the model attempted to show an alternative source of energy and let people know that they should use less conventional energy. She said her parents had helped her in making the model. She had spent two months to build the model.

At the science meet held in Pilikula, she learnt about rainwater harvesting from the models that other students had presented.
