Activists opposing the Yettinahole project will put up 500 banners between Mangaluru and Sakleshpur as part of a series of agitations.
According to the co-convener of Nethravati Nadi Samrakshna Okkoota, Dinesh Holla, the banners would be put up on private properties and not on public properties, along the national highway.
He said that 300 banners with slogan ‘Yettinahole nillisi Nethravati ulisi’ had been printed and would be displayed in a few days. Another 200 banners would be printed soon.

Mr. Holla said if the banners were displayed in public places there were chances of the district administration getting them removed as it got removed two fibre made statues installed at Clock Tower circle in the city a month ago.

The convener of the okkoota, Niranjan Rai, alleged that Karnataka Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (KNNL) was continuing with the works despite giving an undertaking to the National Green Tribunal, Southern Zone, Chennai that the project works at Sakleshpur taluk would not be continued till the issue was resolved. The government was “cheating” the people, he alleged.

Mr. Holla said that the okkootta was demanding that the government declare the area from Kudremukh ranges to Pushpagiri ranges in the Western Ghats as ‘Nethravati Nadi Samrakshana Valaya’.
Office-bearers of various organisations under the okkootta met in the city on Sunday to chalk out the plan of blocking the Mahaveera Circle in the city on October 15.
Mr. Holla said that some more meetings would be conducted to this effect.

Meanwhile, a team of BJP leaders will visit Yettinahole on October 6. Pratap Simha Nayak, president, Dakshina Kannada unit of the BJP, would lead the team to see the on-going works.
The team members will comprise the former Minister J. Krishna Palemar, Ganesh Karnik, MLC, the former MLC K. Monappa Bhandary, former MLAs Rukmayya Poojary and Padmanabha Kottari and others.
