Bank staffer thwarts robbery attempt

An alert cooperative bank employee managed to foil a robbery attempt by throwing stones at the miscreants at the branch of Kotekar Vyavasaya Seva Sahakari Bank on K.C. Road on Friday.

The Ullal police said two robbers wearing helmets entered the branch by reportedly holding the security guard by his neck around 1 p.m.

The robbers threatened the branch manager, clerk and a bank employee with knives, and made them open the bank locker.

Gold ornaments

The robbers pushed the bank personnel into the washroom and locked them. They then began putting gold ornaments into a gunny bag.

The police said that as the robbers were getting away, a bank personnel managed to escape from the washroom.

He reportedly took some stones from the corner of the washroom and threw it at the robbers, who left the gunny bag and fled.

The Ullal police have launched a search for the robbers based on the complaint of the branch manager.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (South) Shruthi N.S. said the CCTV cameras at the branch had been turned off when the incident happened.
