All India relay cycling expedition begins

The second leg of the All India Relay Cycling Expedition, being conducted by the employees of airports across the country, was launched from Mangalore Airport on Thursday. The expedition aims at covering the distance between Thiruvanathapuram and Jammu, a distance of 3,825 km, in a little more than three months.

There was ambiguity as to which cause was being endorsed on this expedition — the cyclists themselves said it was a toss up between ‘national integrity’ or for promotion of eco-friendly modes of transport — and with no banners or pamphlets, it was difficult to say how their messages would be spread.

Deputy Commissioner N. Prakash flagged off the expedition. The former Airport Director M.R. Vasudev spoke.
