ABVP protests against indecent Facebook photos

September 23, 2014 06:02 pm | Updated 06:02 pm IST - Mangalore:

Numerous students and members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) marched through the city on Tuesday demanding the arrest of those who posted indecent pictures of women on social networking website, Facebook.

According to the protestors, who took out a rally from Besant Women’s College to the Police Commissioner’s Office, a fake Facebook account had been created by unknown persons where pictures of girls from the city were being posted.

“By posting morphed pictures of girls, the culprits behind the page are jeopardising the future of the girls and damaging their reputation. There is a real possibility that these girls may even discontinue their education to escape from the humiliation,” said Lavin Kotian, district organising secretary of ABVP.

Gathering in front of the police commissioner’s office, the organisation accused the cyber-crime cell of the police of ignoring a complaint filed against the page and its creators.

“Even though a complaint has been filed at the Barke police station, the police has done little to arrest the people behind these morphed photos,” said Mr. Kotian.

While submitting the memorandum, ABVP threatened of more protests if arrests were not made immediately.
