Published - July 01, 2012 01:47 pm IST - Mangalore:

Demanding the rollback of the recent hike in fees of seats under the Government quota of CET, the ABVP staged a protest in Mangalore on Saturday

The fee hike affected poor meritorious students, said Chinmaya Rai, City Coordinator, ABVP. The protest also pressed for stricter regulation of Universities. “In allowing the opening of many universities, many more problems have propped up, while existing problems continue to affect higher education,” said Mr. Rai.

The organisation has called for a uniform academic year for all universities, besides demanding action against corrupt officials and ex-officials of the Woman’s university, Mysore University, and Rajiv Gandhi University.

“Universities should convert offer only merit seats and should cancel their payment seats like Kuvempu University has done,” said Mr. Rai.
