Litterateur and activist Kayyara Kinhanna Rai on Saturday reiterated the demand for inclusion of Kasaragod in Karnataka and expressed the hope that the dream would be realised one day.
Addressing a gathering assembled to celebrate his 99 birthday, Mr. Rai said, “We have to be determined in our cause for merger of Kasaragod in Karnataka. We have to continue our fight. If you all cooperate, this dream of mine will certainly realise.”
A festive atmosphere prevailed at the poet’s daughter’s house — the venue of the event — which is 50 metres away from the poet’s house “Kavita Kutira”. Mr. Rai, who needs help to move about, was brought in a vehicle from his tile-roofed house. He was made to sit on a customised chair as his admirers and well wishers greeted Mr. Rai.

Among those who had come to greet the writer was Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj. “I have been coming to greet this writer every year on his birthday for the last 44 years,” he said.
