Residents of the State of South Australia seem to have a taste for south Indian vegitarian food. “Out there, most people think that Punjabi or north Indian food is all that India can offer. When I introduced some friends to idly and dosa, they loved it,” said A.K. Taen, Australia's Senior Trade Commissioner to India.
“I am sure that if somebody sets up a good Udupi restaurant in South Australia, it will be a huge success,” said Mr. Taren during a talk on ‘Business opportunities between India and South Australia' at the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Thursday.
Describing South Australia as the country's “best kept secret”, Mr. Taren said, “Although, the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Sydney are some of the better known States, South Australia has a lot to offer to a cross-section of foreigners.” It had been rated as the world's eighth most liveable place by the Economist Intelligence Unit and was attracting a lot of attention from students, businessmen, professionals and tourists.

In the business section, mining and agri-businesses are now a big draw. A large quantity of Australian apples and oranges are exported. South Australia boasts the biggest uranium deposits in the world, in addition to sizeable deposits of copper, iron ore and other minerals, he said. Information technology and biotechnology are among the other sectors where investors and professionals can seek opportunities, Mr. Taren said.
