Janata Dal (Secular) Dakshina Kannada District unit president M.B. Sadashiva on Monday announced revamp of party units at the district and block levels amid protests from a couple of party workers.

Mr. Sadashiva said such a decision had been taken in order to accommodate newcomers as well as old party workers. The reconstitution will be done by a seven-member committee that includes former Minister B. Nagaraja Shetty, who recently joined the party from the BJP. “We have already started the process. We hope to complete the process as early as possible,” Mr. Sadashiva said.

President of the Minority Cell of the JD(S), D.M. Aslam, who was present at the press meet, took exception to the inclusion of Hyder Parthipady in the committee. “What has Mr. Parthipady done to be in the committee,” he said, turning towards Mr. Sadashiva. “I do not mind facing disciplinary action for raising this issue now,” he said. Another party office-bearer also raised his voice against the constitution of the committee.

Earlier, Mr. Nagaraj Shetty received the letter from JD(S) president H.D. Kumaraswamy appointing him as the vice-president of the State unit. Mr. Shetty will be the third vice-president from the district after former Minister Amaranath Shetty and Sushil Naronha. Mr. Nagaraj Shetty said he would work to strengthen the party in the district.

Mr. Sadashiva said a large number of people would join the party at a function to be held at the Town Hall on October 29.
