International film festival from November 14

You can visit “Belli Moda” (silver cloud), meet a technology-obsessed boy named Satellite at the Iran-Turkey border, go back in time to Algeria's struggle for independence from France, experience the dilemmas of a small town pickpocket in China and more, in the short span of four days.

Courtesy the Kanrataka Chalanachitra Academy, people in Mangalore will have a unique opportunity to watch 16 films from other cultures and regions, including Indian, from November 14 to 17. The international film festival would have four shows a day at the Don Bosco Hall on Shivaram Karanth Road, apart from two lectures on the opening day, according to a release. The show timings are 10 a.m., noon, 2.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m.

The films selected for the festival include three Indian films in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages. Other films are from Israel, Iran, Russia, Iran/Iraq, Czech, South Africa, France, Algeria, United States of America, and two each from China, and Korea.

Lectures

Visiting professor at Coimbatore University William D'Silva and National Award-winning filmmaker Abhaya Simha will present papers on “Cinema – A Narrative”. The paper presentation will be held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Pandeshwar, at 4.30 p.m. on November 14.

Entry passes for the film screenings are priced at Rs. 50 for students and at Rs. 100 for others. A one-day pass is available for Rs. 50. Delegate passes are available at Mahesh P.U. College, Kudroli, Mangalore; Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Pandeshwar; Ganapathy Junior College; Govindadasa College, Surathkal; Karnataka Government Polytechnic; and Ambit Computers, Gokul Market, K.S. Rao Road.

Wednesday: Pasanga (Tamil, Pandiraj); The President's Barber (Korea, Chang Sam Lim); White Balloon (Iran, Jafar Panahi); The Road Home (China, Zhang Yimou).
