Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Ltd. (IFFCO) here has a stock of 1,000 tonnes of NPK fertilizer, meant for distribution in Dakshina Kannada, according to A. Padmaiah Naik, Joint Director of Agriculture here.
He stated this at the monthly progress review meeting held at the zilla panchayat office on Monday. Vice-president of the panchayat H. Jagannath Saliyan presided over the meeting.
Mr. Naik said that since January 4, IFFCO had distributed 600 tonnes of NPK fertilizer in the district. This included 400 tonnes allotted to cooperative societies and 200 tonnes supplied to the Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation, he said.

In addition, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd. had supplied 1,000 tonnes of NPK fertilizer (Suphala) to the district in December 2009. About 90 per cent of this supply had been sent to cooperative societies, he said.
The Joint Director said that any further requirement from farmers could met with the available stock.
Mr. Naik said that the department, through the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the zilla panchayat, had requested the Government to supply 5,373 tonnes of Duphala during 2010, considering the demand for it in 2009.

P. Shivashankar, CEO, directed the officials concerned to form water and sanitation committees in all 368 revenue villages in the district and also prepare a list of such committees formed in each taluk.
The CEO said that officials of the B.R. Ambedkar Development Corporation in the district were lagging behind in selecting the beneficiaries of various Government schemes.
They were acting irresponsibly, especially in ensuring power connection to the beneficiaries of the Ganga Kalyana Yojana, a housing scheme, he said.
Chairpersons of various standing committees of the panchayat attended the meeting.
