The city-based West Coast Rail Yatri Development Committee has said that there is a wrong perception among the people of Mangalore that they would be losing a certain number of berths because of the extension of the Yeshwanthpur-Mangalore train to Kannur.
Committee president G. Hanumanth Kamath said in a statement here on Monday that there was no separate quota for Kannur. Instead, there was a pooled quota of 255 berths and 151 Tatkal berths in the train. These berths could be booked by anyone from any station to any destination along the route of the train on first come, first served basis. This had been clarified by the jurisdictional Chief Reservation Supervisor. One more coach might be added to this train by April, he said.
Tatkal tickets were no longer issued from the originating station to the final destination. Thus, passengers from B.C. Road, Puttur, Subrahmanya, Hassan, Mysore and Mandya too could secure Tatkal tickets, he said.
