A befitting finale to film festival

Chinese film The Road Home provided a befitting finale on Wednesday to the four-day international film festival organised in the city by the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy in association with local film clubs. The Bakrid holiday seemed to have brought in more film enthusiasts to Don Bosco Hall, the venue of the festival.

“It is poetry on celluloid” was the comment by filmmaker of Kubi Mattu Iyala (Kannada) fame Sadanand Suvarna of Mangalore after watching the superb movie that renewed one's deep-set respect for purity of romantic love between man and woman. Beautiful colour scheme, amazing photography with perfect framing and natural acting has turned the simple story into a masterpiece in the hands of director Zhang Yimou.

President's Barber (Korea) provided quite an insight into the other side of the fame that an ordinary barber gets on becoming “hair man” for the country's head. So much so that he declines the offer to be barber for the new President.

When forced to be one, he does not know where to begin from. Reason? The new head of the State has far few hair than he could handle.

“I will come back when you have more hair,” he dares to say only to be beaten up and packed off inside a gunny bag and dumped in front of his house.

But the man is smiling despite the painful bruises as he has managed to get rid of the job.

Embedded finely with this is the story of his young son who is tortured on suspicion of being a spy.
