566 votes not counted in Udupi-Chikmagalur seat

May 17, 2014 12:00 pm | Updated 12:00 pm IST - Udupi:

Technical snag in the EVM is the reason

As many as 566 votes, of polling station number 113 of Chikmagalur Assembly segment, could not be counted due to a technical snag in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) during the counting of votes for Udupi-Chikmagalur parliamentary constituency here on Friday.

Kumara, Additional Deputy Commissioner, said that despite several efforts, the data from the EVM of the polling station could not be retrieved.

This information was conveyed to the Election Commission through fax and email.

“The Election Commission then replied and asked us to declare the results because these votes would not change the results as the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Shobha Karandlaje’s margin of victory was 1.81 lakh,” Mr. Kumara said.
