2-day Tulu cultural feast at Pilikula from tomorrow

Vishwa Tuluvera Aayino Koota will be holding two-day Tulunadochhaya, a Tulu culture and food festival, at the Pilikula Nisargadhama from December 23.

Talking to reporters here on recently, David Frank Fernandes, convener of the event, said the two-day festival will see exhibition of tulu art, culture, and food. The event makes the younger generation understand the richness of Tulu culture, which is known for diversity and harmonious living.

Mr. Fernandes said there will be exhibition of crafts and folk art. There will be food stalls providing rare delicacies of the coastal area. There will be a show of Tulu films too and staging of Yakshagana. There will be shows by troupes sent by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Beary Sahitya Academy, and Karnataka Nataka Academy. A signature campaign will be held demanding inclusion of Tulu in the eighth schedule of the Constitution.

Awards

The Tulu Ratna awards will be given to writer D.K. Chowta, social activist Sunita M. Shetty, and Siri Paddana singer Gopal Nayak Paachar. The Koota will present Jana Maitri awards to five persons, including South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank Chairman M.N. Rajendra Kumar and founder of A.J. Hospital and Research Centre A.J. Shetty.

The Koota will also present awards to Tulu film actors namely Devadas Kapikad, Navin D. Padil, and Bhojaraj Vamanjoor. Lifetime achievement award will be given to Lata K.N. Tailor, he said. There will be a workshop on “Tulunadan Kalarippayattu” by Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram, Thiruvananthapuram.
