10 injured as buses collide

Ten persons, including a bus driver, were injured when two buses collided in Alape near Padil on the outskirts of the city on Thursday.

According to the Mangaluru East Traffic police, the bus going towards Bajal overtook a vehicle and then collided with the bus that was going towards the State Bank Circle.

The driver of the bus going towards State Bank and four other bus passengers were injured. They have been moved to different private hospitals, the police said.

The accident occurred when it was raining heavily in the city.

Bus hits motorcycle

A 20-year-old motorcyclist was injured after his vehicle was hit by a school bus near Melarpadavu in Mangaluru Traffic East police station limits on Thursday.

The police said that the school bus driver had lost control over the vehicle.

The motorcyclist has been admitted to a private hospital, the police said.

Man killed

A man was killed after a lorry rammed his scooter in Kundapur town on Thursday. According to the police, Narasimha Aithal (45) was going to Koteshwar, when at Shastri Circle a lorry rammed the scooter.

Aithal, who was thrown off his scooter, was severely injured and was rushed to the government hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Rash and negligent driving by the lorry driver is said to be the cause of the accident.

A case has been registered at Kundapur Traffic Police Station, the police added.

Money stolen

A gang of persons has allegedly stolen 1,000 euros and $ 1,400 from two Kazakhstan nationals at an Ayurveda centre here.

According to the police, Assel Aithzhanova and Svetlana Dembitskaya had come to the Hitayu Ayurveda and Yoga Centre on June 3 between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. for treatment.

The women had come for treatment at the Centre here on June 2 as well.

They brought this money to meet their treatment and travel expenses.

A case has been registered at the Udupi Town Police Station.

Investigation is on, the police added.
