‘Prevent corruption from creeping into judiciary’

Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor T.C. Shivashankar Murthy called upon the people involved in the administration of justice to work towards preventing corruption from creeping into judiciary.

Speaking at the Law Day Celebration in Mangalore on Monday, Mr. Murthy said if corruption crept into judiciary, the entire society would be affected. “It is necessary to rededicate ourselves to the cardinal principles of justice. Maintenance of integrity and standard of sincerity will take the country to greater heights,” he said.

The country made good progress in over six decades of adaptation of indigenised Constitution. But there were challenges as 28 per cent of the population were still illiterate and 36 per cent of population were below the poverty line. There were still a lot of things to be done to fulfil what had been enshrined in the Constitution.

Principal District and Sessions Judge Ashok G. Nijagannavar said the Law Day should be a day for introspection.

The function was jointly organised by the Mangalore Bar Association and the Dakshina Kannada District Legal Services Authority.
