“Madurai, Virudhunagar are sensitive”

Pradip Kumar

Newly appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police (Madurai Range) Pradip Kumar has warned of stringent action against criminals and those trying to instigate caste clashes.

A 2003-batch Indian Police Service officer, Mr. Kumar was hitherto Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) in Tirunelveli City.

He took charge from Anand Kumar Somani, who was promoted and deputed to Central Bureau of Investigation, on June 30.

Stating that law and order and peace would create an environment conducive to implementation of welfare policies by the government, he said adding that it was the duty of the police to ensure public tranquillity.

The police were ready to bring in amicable solutions to various issues through negotiations. But penal action would not be spared for criminals.

“There will be zero tolerance on criminal gangs and on organised crimes. We have planned a systematic approach in handling criminals right from registration of cases to arrest and also to have continuous follow-up in the court for getting them convicted,” Mr. Kumar said.

Stating that both Madurai and Virudhunagar districts were sensitive in nature, the DIG said he would visit every sub-division in both districts and find out area-specific issues to device strategies for maintaining law and order.

Mr. Kumar has served as Superintendent of Police in Cuddalore and Ramanathapuram districts and has also served for five years in Central Bureau of Investigation. Upon promotion, he has assumed the new post in Madurai.
