In an effort to promote talent of students, Ma Foi Foundation, the corporate social responsibility unit of Ma Foi, has instituted ‘Disha Young Achievers Awards.’ Students with talent on academic and non-academic spheres will be identified and honoured.
The Foundation, which focuses on education, health, and livelihood, announced on Sunday winners of the awards for 2012. The non-academic spheres include sports, yoga, community service, and art. Six children who were chosen among the winners were awarded a trophy, a cash prize of Rs.10,000, and a citation each, at a function held at the Ja Bose Kalyana Mandapam in Sivakasi. Students, teachers, and parents from across the State participated .
Chief Guest Shobana Ramachandran, Managing Director, TVS Sri Chakra,distributed the ‘Disha Young Achiever’ and ‘Disha Rising Star’ award to the winners. Popular debater K. Gnanasambandan, the Special Guest, distributed ‘Disha Award for Academic Excellence.’

Latha Rajan, Managing Trustee, Ma Foi Foundation, congratulated the award winners on their achievements. She said that they had proved through their stellar performances that economic and physical limitations were never a limiting factor. “There are plenty of talented people in the State with great ideas, accomplishments and inherent talent. We are happy to honour these unknown gems with sheer grit and determination.”
The Foundation received around 300 applications from across Tamil Nadu, out of which 50 children were short-listed for the final round on the basis of their performance, economic background, and drive to achieve.
The awardees were K. Nivedha (multi-talent); N. Ajay Adhip (yoga); C. Jansi Rani (chess and dance); M. Guru Vishnu (social service); J. Keerthi (arts); and S. Mamtha Shivdharshni (sports ). The Rising Star Awards were given to B.Vedavalli (yoga); M. Hema Priya (education); and M. Guru Pandian (multi talent).

The award distribution was followed by dance performances by Disha scholars and students of Sornammal Matriculation School, Chennai.
