Water quality can be tested till Sunday

As part of the National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Awareness Week conceived by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board, Collector L. Subramanian flagged off a rally here on Tuesday.

The awareness week, which is being observed from March 16 to 22, will have programmes to raise awareness among the public of the importance of water quality, cleanliness and hygiene as well as rainwater harvesting and other techniques to conserve water resources.

Flagging off the rally at Nirmala Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Mr. Subramanian said that teachers, officials from the local bodies and overhead tank operators had been trained to test the quality of water.

“From March 20 to 22, water samples from drinking water sources, tanks and wells will be tested for quality. Persons can bring water samples to the panchayat union office near their villages,” he said.

More than 2,500 students from the Nirmala Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Sourashtra Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Fatima School and Mangayarkarasi Girls’ College participated in the rally.
