“Utilise online facility”

November 29, 2011 12:21 pm | Updated 12:21 pm IST - MADURAI:

Collector U. Sagayam has appealed to the revenue officials to ensure that grievances of villagers were redressed through ‘thodu vaanam,' the online facility.

Poor people need not travel all the way from their villages to the Collectorate every week to submit with petitions. “The reason why ‘thodu vaanam' was launched was to obviate this hardship. Hence, officials should make use of this facility. I do not want to see a huge crowd at the Collector's office week after week. If I am to receive petitions, than why should there be so many officials down the line. The official at the respective block / panchayat / ward / villages should ensure that the petitioners were handled locally. It solves many problems. When there is an alternative, what prevents you from not using the Internet facility,” he said.

The ‘thodu vaanam' facility not only reduced paper work for officials but also helped senior officers at the Collectorate to instantly look into and find solutions. Frequent trips made by people, particularly the differently abled persons, to the Collector's office could be avoided. He announced rewards to officials who used the facility.
