July 06, 2013 12:50 pm | Updated June 04, 2016 03:45 pm IST - MADURAI:

Madurai City police arrested two Nigerian nationals, Goodey Osagabovo and Sylvester Uluebeka, from Bangalore for cheating a Madurai resident, Susai Antonykumar, of Rs.94,800 on the pretext of selling high-end mobile phones for a lower price.

Seeing an advertisement on one of the free classified advertisement websites, Antonykumar had called the mobile number given on the website and placed an order for 10 mobile phone handsets. He paid Rs.5,000 on June 22 in the bank account given by the accused.

However, the phones did not reach Antonykumar. Instead, the accused gave different reasons such as the lack of certificate of insurance and difficulty in securing clearance at the airport for the delay in sending him the consignment, and asked him for more money on different occasions.

After paying up Rs.94,800, Antonykumar grew suspicious about the entire deal and lodged a complaint with the Madurai City Cyber Crime Cell.

The police traced the accused through the bank account and arrested them. They found that the accused had used a fake name for getting the SIM card and for opening the bank account.

They were arrested under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, and for forgery and cheating.
