Two killed as TNSTC buses collide near Sempatti

Two passengers, including a six-year-old girl S. Rudra, were killed when two Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses collided at Sithayankottai under Sempatti police station limits on Sunday evening. The identity of a woman, who was killed, is yet to be established.

The police said that the victims were from the bus proceeding to Palani from Theni. Two of the three others who have sustained serious injuries have been referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.

The police said that the driver of the ill-fated bus stopped the vehicle on the road on seeing the other bus coming towards it in an uncontrolled manner. The bus coming from Tiruppur and proceeding to Theni hit the other bus on its side behind the driver’s seat.

The right side of the entire bus was damaged and those sitting on the window side were injured.

The deceased Rudra was travelling from Gangwarpatti near Batlagundu along with her mother Vijayarani, who suffered serious injuries. Another woman Pavalakodi from Coimbatore lost one of her hands and an unidentified youth also sustained serious injuries.

Superintendent of Police R. Sakthivel and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Oddanchatram), Chandran, inspected the spot and supervised the rescue work.
