In a bid to provide transgenders with employment opportunities, a website was launched during a festival organised by Bharathi Kanamma Trust here on Sunday.

The website, which will take shape over the next six months, has been planned in such a way that transgenders from across the country can register and create profiles for themselves. “There are a few companies that employ transgenders. They can look for the right candidates on the website,” said Bharathi Kanamma, a transgender activist from the city.

She said that in the next six months, they would focus on enrolling transgenders from across the country for their website to prepare a pan-India database. “By 2016, we expect the website to be up and running. Our aim is to ensure that every transgender, no matter whether she is educated or not, should be employed in some small job or other and should not resort to begging or other activity for their livelihood,” she said.

The website would also enable transgenders to network across States and interact with each other about job opportunities.

As part of the transgender festival, members of the community put up a cultural programme which featured group and solo dances, music performance and skits.
