Delayed disbursal of salaries by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation prompted trade unions to stage a demonstration here on Thursday.

The TNSTC Madurai Division comprises Madurai, Dindigul and Virudhunagar. The agitators claimed that the TNSTC had a proposal to categorise the staff into different segments for disbursal of salaries.

This was nothing but delaying tactics, they claimed. The TNSTC had delayed the release of DA arrears for the last five months. The non-release of salaries on August 1 (for the month of July) had come as a shock, they said.

A senior TNSTC official blamed the banks for the delay. He said the salary statement had been sent to the respective banks for the salaries to be credited to employees’ accounts by 11 a.m. on Thursday. However, there were some problems at the bank’s end. But a senior trade union member said the practice was to prepare the salary list on the last day of the month so that staff could withdraw money from ATMs on the first day of the following month.
