August 03, 2017 07:19 am | Updated 07:19 am IST - MADURAI

Question papers and other materials for TNPSC examination being off-loaded at Madurai Collectorate on Wednesday.

Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission Group 2 (A) question papers reached the Collectorate here on Wednesday and they would be despatched to five centres. The exam will be held across the State on August 6.

Though rumours were agog that a strike may be staged by the Joint Action Committee of Tamil Nadu Teachers Association (JACTTA) and Government Employees Organisation [GEO] in Chennai [with respect to the conduct of the exam] on August 5 over pension schemes and salary increase under the seventh Pay Commission, no word has reached Madurai yet, an official said.

It would be difficult for supervisors and invigilators to collect papers on time on August 6 if they were to take part in the protest, the official said.

A total of 40,000 candidates are expected to take the exam in Madurai South, Madurai North, Melur, Tirumangalam and Usilampatti taluks. They have to attempt 200 questions for 300 marks within two hours. This ‘non-interview’ exam will recruit candidates for the post of ‘Assistant’ and ‘Personal Clerk’ across all departments of the Tamil Nadu administration.

B. Abishek Bala, who will sit for the exam at Elamanur centre said, “The aptitude and logical reasoning part of the exam are simple than those of Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examination. If I am well versed in general English from the Tamil Nadu Board’s 6th to 10th standard portions, I’m assured of 60 marks. I have been preparing for the last 20 days and am fairly confident of getting through.”
