Three murders in Ramanathapuram district

The district has witnessed three murders in the last 24 hours in three different incidents.

The Emaneswaram police said a woman at Vaigai Nagar had allegedly murdered her husband, who returned home from Kuwait three days ago after he picked up quarrel with her on Tuesday night and threatened to dispose of properties to settle down in Kuwait.

When the deceased, identified as P. Kaattu Raja, 54, quarrelled with his wife, his daughter, who came to her mother’s place after delivery, chided her father for fighting with her mother.

When the deceased, who was in an inebriated condition, pushed her daughter down after pulling her hair, his enraged wife Muthulakshmi picked up a wooden log and hit him on his head.

The deceased, after falling unconscious, threatened to kill his wife and daughter after regaining conscious. Fearing that he might attack them, Muthulakshmi tied his legs and locked him inside a room and he was found dead in the morning, police said. Police arrested the woman and launched an enquiry.

In another incident at Vandikara Street here, Sethu Pandian, a part-time driver, allegedly stabbed his first wife Jayarani, 45, to death after she refused to vacate the house. After separation, Pandian had married another woman.

When the deceased objected and refused to vacate, the accused pulled a knife and stabbed her to death and escaped, police said. Police launched a hunt for him.

In the third incident at KK Nagar near here, a man, identified as Kalil Kumar, 20, allegedly murdered his elder brother Muneeswaran, 22, after attacking him with a wooden log after the deceased abused his mother.

Police said the deceased who was indulging in criminal activities came home on Tuesday night when the accused hit him with a wooden log. He succumbed to the injury on being taken to hospital, police said.
