Three persons have been arrested for cheating a youth in the guise selling him ‘iridium vessel.’

Police said Aravind, 30, a drinking water tanker lorry owner from Swaminathapuram near here filed a complaint with the Anjugramam police last Monday accusing three persons of cheating him to the tune of ₹ 1 lakh in the guise of selling an ‘iridium vessel.’ Registering a case in this connection, the police nabbed John Alwyn Prabhu, 35, of Zionpuram near Suchindram, Satishkumar, 37, of Ganesapuram and Nagarajan, 42 of Kumuli.

“The trio had cheated a good number of people from Kerala, Puducherry, Thanjavur, Karur, Chennai and Kanniyakumari with the promise that the rare ‘iridium vessel’ in their possession would bring a fortune to the owner. Since most of the victims did not file any complaint with the police even though they had lost huge sums of money, no action could be taken against them. As a formal complaint has been received and the first information report registered subsequently, the three have been arrested,” said Bhaskaran, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kanniyakumari.

Mr. Baskaran, explaining their modus operandi, said the culprits would fix a small machine with a miniature motor inside the metal pot with a small opening, which cannot be seen from outside. When the battery-operated buzzer-like machine is operated with a hidden remote, it would trigger vibrations inside the pot to look as if the vessel had special powers.
