Thieves leave a ‘daring message’

December 15, 2014 09:28 am | Updated 09:28 am IST - MADURAI:

The catch-me-if-youcan message left by thieves at an IMFL retail outlet near Melur.

In what should be an embarrassment to the police, thieves who stole liquor bottles worth Rs. 35,000 from a Tasmac-run IMFL retail outlet, have left a catch-us-if-you-can message at Keezhaiyur under Keezhavalavu police limits.

The crime came to light when the employees came for work on Sunday morning. The police said the thieves had gained entry into the shop on Tiruppattur Road by making a hole on the wall on the rear side of the shop.

They had decamped with around 148 bottles of beer and hard liquor of different brands.

They left a ‘drawing and a message’ inside the shop in the form of a ‘naamam’ suggesting that they had fooled the police.

“The culprits have challenged us saying (in Tamil): ‘We are three. Catch us if you can’,” a police official said.

The police said the hole was so small that only a lean man or a small boy could enter through it.

Just a couple of weeks back, a break-in at another IMFL outlet in Melur region was reported in which Rs. 80,000 in cash was stolen, the police added.
