The Hindu Young World Quiz for school students on Tuesday

The country’s premier contest for school children, The Hindu Young World Quiz, will be conducted here on Tuesday.

The quiz, an integral part of The Hindu ’s Newspaper in Education programme, is being held in 16 cities across the country – Bangalore, Hubli, Mangalore, Puducherry, Tirupati, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruchi, Salem, Coimbatore, Madurai, Kochi, Kozhikode, Secunderabad, Visakhapattinam, Vijayawada and Chennai -- this year. The Madurai event will be conducted at the Raja Muthiah Mandram from 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

The competition is open for students from Class VII to Class IX. A maximum of four teams is allowed per school. So far, about 400 teams from over 100 schools have registered for the Madurai edition of the quiz contest. Spot entries will also be allowed for the event and schools that have not registered so far can send their teams to the venue at 9 a.m. to complete the formalities for spot registration.

The regional winner will receive a cash award of Rs 12, 000, trophies and certificates from

The Hindu . A cash prize of Rs 8, 000 will be given to the first runner-up and Rs 6, 000 to the second runner-up, along with trophies and certificates.

There will also be gifts from the sponsors of the event. The regional winner will participate in the all-India final to be held in Chennai on December 7.
