Tension in Tenkasi GH over abandoned body of infant

April 09, 2013 01:13 pm | Updated 04:00 pm IST - TIRUNELVELI

Tension prevailed for a while on the Tenkasi Government Hospital premises after a dog was found holding the torso of a newborn male baby on Monday morning.

After a hot chase, patients recovered torso from the dog. Even as the public were questioning hospital officials on whether any newborn from the obstetrics and gynaecology ward had gone missing, a mortuary worker allegedly took the body and buried it near the mortuary without informing the hospital officials and the police, which infuriated the public.

As an altercation broke out between the public and the mortuary worker, he exhumed the body so casually and left the spot immediately after keeping the trunk in the mortuary.

On coming to know about the incident, police reached the spot and investigation revealed that Madasamy from Neduvayal near Tenkasi admitted his son to the government hospital on April 6. He was on April 3 at his house. As the baby died on the day of admission, he, with the help of the mortuary worker, buried the body on the hospital premises itself and left for Neduvayal.

“We’ve sent the samples for forensic analysis,” said Joint Director of Health Jayapaul.
