Teaching staff of MKU college stage protest

Members of Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa and Alagappa University Teachers’ Association of MKU College staged a demonstration in front of the college, pressing for a charter of demands.

The protest was led by its secretary P. Murugesan.

The association members flayed the break in service given to 40 teaching assistants who were recruited in 2013 during the month of May.

“These teaching staff members did not get their May salary due to this break. We wonder why the university administration that allows continuity in service for similar teaching assistants recruited in 2012 would not extend it to those recruited in 2013,” he said. The association also wanted college Principal S. Irulappan to bring the newly started Master in Business Administration course, which was under the Department of Commerce, under the Department of Business Administration.

Ten Assistant Professors, whose services were regularised in 2006 and 2007, were put under the contributory pension scheme.

However, for the people who were regularised in the past, their services before regularisation too was taken into account.

“If a similar yard stick was applied to these Assistant Professors they could be included in the old pension scheme,” Mr. Murugesan said.

The association has planned to stage demonstrations on five days.
