The police said the deceased, J. Wilson of Kanmoi West Street in Tallakulam, had a quarrel with S. Nagapandi during Deepavali over bursting of crackers.

A 19-year-old youth was stabbed to death following a street brawl at Tallakulam in the small hours of Thursday. The police have arrested two persons, including a juvenile.

The police said the deceased, J. Wilson of Kanmoi West Street in Tallakulam, had a quarrel with S. Nagapandi during Deepavali over bursting of crackers. Subsequently, he was booked for attempt to murder following an assault on Nagapandi. Wilson, a polytechnic college dropout, along with his friends, picked up a quarrel with Nagapandi of North Street, Tallakulam, on Wednesday evening. In the melee, Nagapandi sustained head injury.

The Tallakulam police gave a community service register receipt based on Nagapandi’s complaint and asked him to get treatment for the injury at the Government Rajaji Hospital. However, Nagapandi came back to Tallakulam, the Tallakulam Inspector of Police, V. Mohan, said. Accompanied by four of his friends, Nagapandi invited Wilson for a peace meeting. Following the talks late in the evening, he invited Wilson and his friend Sankar for dinner as a mark of the patch-up. Despite a warning by Sankar, Wilson alone joined them for dinner.
