Students opposing NMC Bill boycott class

Students affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Medical Students Association (TNMSA) of K. A.P.Viswanatham Government Medical College boycotted classes opposing the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill, here on Monday.

Speaking to

The Hindu , B. Arunanbhi, State secretary, TNMSA, wondered how the NEXT exam could be a common exam for both qualifying as a medical practitioner as a licentiate examination and as an entrance examination for admission to postgraduation.

Also, Clause 32 of the Bill seeks to introduce mid-level community health practitioners. “There is no clear description of who are these community health practitioners. This will create registered quacks,” he said.

Similar protests were also held at Thanjavur Medical College Hospital where students took part in a sit-in agitation demanding that the Bill be revoked.
