Sewage treatment plants inspected

Director of Municipal Administration G. Prakash on Tuesday inspected the ongoing work at the Madurai Corporation’s Sakkimangalam and Vellakkal sewage treatment plants.

The Sakkimangalam plant, which was constructed under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission with a capacity to treat 45.7 million litres a day, is now handling sewage pumped from the Mundirithoppu station. A new collection tank and sump are constructed at the plant to treat sewage pumped from the Sellur station too. At Vellakkal, he visited the unit that produces gas from waste on an experimental basis.

The Director, accompanied by Corporation Commissioner C. Kathiravan, also inspected the underground drainage work at Balarengapuram, according to a corporation press release.
