Sewage treatment plant to be set up

A special Corporation council meeting, chaired by Corporation Commissioner S. Visakan, passed 23 resolutions on Monday.

To arrest sewage flowing into Panthalkudi channel that drains into Vaigai river near Alwarpuram, the Corporation has passed a proposal to set up a sewage treatment plant at a cost ₹3.15 crore with a capacity to treat 2 million litres per day (MLD).

A Detailed Project Report on operation and maintenance of the plant for the next five years had been prepared, the officials said. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, would contribute ₹2.50 crore for the plant. The remaining ₹65 lakh will be routed through the Corporation’s General Fund.

A resolution was also passed for laying paver block roads at Burma Colony (ward 8) at a cost of ₹36.50 lakh and a proposal for laying new drinking water pipelines at Al Amin Nagar, Selvi Nagar and Roja Nagar in ward 25 at a cost of ₹ 21 lakh.

A resolution for supplying sanitary napkins to students of Corporation schools at a cost of ₹7.89 lakh was also passed.
