Second phase of Grama Swaraj Movement reviewed

It was successfully implemented in 31 villages in first phase

Grama Swaraj Movement that was successfully implemented in 31 villages in the first phase in Virudhunagar district has been launched in 281 villages with a population of over 1000 persons. The administration has fixed a target of providing the benefits under seven Union Government schemes to all eligible families by August 15.

Additional Secretary of Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Praveen Kumar, who is also the Monitoring Officer of Grama Swaraj Movement, reviewed the implementation of the scheme with district officials on Monday.

Mr. Praveen Kumar said that under the scheme all the eligible families would be provided free gas connections, provide electricity connections, distribution of LED bulbs to save power, providing Jan Dhan savings bank accounts for getting benefits under various Government schemes, and providing life insurance under Prime Minister’s Jeevan Jyothi Beema Yojna and accident cover insurance under Prime Minister’s Suraksha Beema Yojna and vaccination of all pregnant women and children.

Two nodal officers in the rank of Deputy Collector/Assistant Director have been posted for each of the 11 panchayat unions to monitor the progress of the schemes’ implementation. Similarly officials have been posted to monitor the implementation of the project department-wise and at village levels, the Collector, A. Sivagnanam said.

Mr. Praveen Kumar interacted with the nodal officers and officials from different departments as how the applications from eligible beneficiaries are collected and how they are scrutinised. He also distributed benefits under the schemes to 21 beneficiaries at Vachakarapatti panchayat.

District Revenue Officer, E. Anada Kumar, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, Suresh, and various other officials were present.
