‘Rotary Happy Village’ project inaugurated

It will benefit 650 households in four villages

MADURAI

Collector S. Natarajan inaugurated a novel project, ‘Rotary Happy Village’, a joint initiative of Rotary International District 3000 and TVS Tyres to foster holistic development in four villages of Melur block in the district, at Manickampatti on Wednesday.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Natarajan emphasised the need to avoid plastic, preserve water resources, grow trees and create awareness of personal hygiene for sustained happiness in villages.

The project aims to create village knowledge centres, which would foster intellectual competence among children. Commending the Rotarians for their efforts in this direction, the Collector also suggested imparting skill training to youth and women.

Additional Collector (District Rural Development Agency) S.P. Amrith assured the villagers of skill-based employment under the MGNREGS and timely access to livelihood opportunities under government programmes.

Rotary District Governor R.V.N. Kannan elaborated on Rotary’s commitment to developing rural India.

R. Srinivasan, project advisor of Rotary Happy Village Project, welcomed the gathering and primary contact of the project R. Raja Govindasamy proposed a vote of thanks.

The project, to be implemented by Arogya Welfare Trust, the CSR implementation arm of TVS Tyres, on an outlay of ₹ 44 lakh, will benefit 650 households in Manickampatti, T. Vellalapatti, Kathapatti and Musundagiripatti.
