An Indian Rock Python measuring about 11 feet in length was rescued when it entered a residential area in Nagamalai Pudukottai, near here, on Thursday. The reptile had slithered into Muthu Street, abutting the Nagamalai hillock when one of the residents saw it and alerted snake rescuers from an NGO.
The forest department was informed and two foresters from the wildlife rescue team reached the spot. The snake was caught and released into the reserve forest area atop the Nagamalai hillock.
“As summer is severe and with scanty vegetation and no water source on the hillock, the snake must have come down in search of water and food. Four years ago, we rescued a larger rock python that measured 15 feet in length from the Madurai Kamaraj University campus,” said P.R. Vishwanath of Oorvanam, a snake rescue NGO.
