Urging the State Government to give adequate compensation to the family of the youth, who was brutally beheaded by a trio from another community in a case of mistaken identity, the victim’s relatives submitted a petition to District Revenue Officer P. Umamaheshwari here on Tuesday evening.
The deceased, M. Ganesan, a lorry driver from Moontradaippu, was allegedly beheaded by Esakki Pandi, Ayyappan and Rengan, all from Paanaankulam near Nanguneri, on Sunday night even as the trio was actually waiting to murder one Velmani, a Dalit from Vaagaikulam near Nanguneri, due to prior enmity. The assailants surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate Court at Tiruchendur on Monday. “Hours after this murder case was given the crime number by the police, the trio surrendered before the court and furnished the correct crime number to the court,” sources in police said.
Meanwhile, demanding adequate compensation to the poor family of Ganesan, who has been mistakenly murdered in a gruesome fashion, a group of people from Moontradaippu and the victim’s relatives staged road roko on Tuesday, on the Tirunelveli – Nagercoil National Highway, near the spot where the body was lying.

After the revenue officals and the police officials assured that they would recommend to the government in favour of giving compensation to the victim’s family, which has lost its sole breadwinner, the protestors gave up their agitation.
To press their demand further, they came to the Collectorate in the evening and submitted petition to Ms. Umamaheshwari, who promised them that she would forward their appeal to the State Government for action. Pacified by this reply, they agreed to accept the body of Ganesan, which was handed over to them on Tuesday night.
