Ration cards to be extended to 2012

December 29, 2011 11:37 am | Updated 11:44 am IST - MADURAI

The blank pages on the existing ration card booklet would be stamped with “2012” with which the cardholders could continue to procure essential commodities as per the norms from January 1, to December 31, 2012.

The State government had recently announced that the same booklet could be used for the ensuing calendar year beginning 1.1.2012.

Consumers intending to change the address, add or delete names in the ration card booklet may do so by orally informing to the salesmen of the shop. Based on the inputs, the field staff would carry out door-to-door enumeration from February onwards.

Hence, either the head of the family (as in the ration card) or any elder from the family are requested to provide information on the changes to be made in the cards to the salesmen. The voluntary disclosure shall be genuine as it would enable the officials to amend the changes accordingly for necessary supplies to the consumers.

District Collector U. Sagayam has in a press note appealed to the cardholders to cooperate with the officials in disseminating correct details which would make the exercise 100 per cent success.
