Rash driving by mini-bus driver claims lives of two motorists

Rash driving by a mini-bus driver, coming from K. Pudur towards outpost, claimed the lives of two two-wheeler riders near the State highways office on Alagarkoil Road and one was reported to be seriously injured here on Thursday.

Traffic police said that at around 6.30 p.m., when the bus was coming from Pudur, it was suddenly seen moving on the wrong side of the road.

As a two-wheeler rider who was going towards Pudur from Outpost was caught unawares on seeing the bus coming (head-on) on the wrong side.

He was trapped and dragged underneath the bus. Close on his heels, another two-wheeler rider who was also coming behind him got involved in the accident.

Out of the three persons who were travelling on two different two-wheelers, one died on the spot, while another was declared as “brought dead” at the Government Rajaji Hospital, while the third person's condition was said to be “serious.”

The names of the two deceased were given as Ramesh (19) of Anupanadi, an automobile mechanic in K. Pudur and Mahesh Kuberan (16) son of Jeevanandam of Chinna Chorakanpatti Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district, who was on the pillion.

The motorist on the other two-wheeler was identified as Suman (30) of Goripalayam. He was running a rice mill and his condition was said to be serious.

Fault of the mini-bus

The police said that the private mini-bus displayed its route as Pudur, Moondrumavadi, G.R Nagar and Tamukkam.

The driver was proceeding from lotus tank towards Circuit House at which point, the accident had occurred.

The motorists' were not wearing helmets.

The bus, it is said, came to a halt, only after banging on the compound wall of the highways office and in the melee the driver had damaged the cable wires and a pole installed close to the pedestrian walkway.

Tallakulam traffic police are investigating.

The mini-bus driver had escaped from the spot.

Transport department officials inspected the accident spot.
