Ramanathapuram district bounced back from last year’s fifth rank in the State to second this year with an overall pass percentage of 98.48 in Class X examination, results of which were announced on Monday.
Sivaganga — defending State topper — slipped to eighth rank.
After this year’s dismal performance in Plus Two examination with 16th rank in the State, Ramanathapuram district came out with a stunning performance in class X, missing the top position by a whisker. However, among government schools, the district emerged on top with an overall pass percentage of 98.26. In all, 94 of the 131 government schools in the district recorded 100% pass results.

Congratulating education department officials and teachers, Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao said a total of 16,623 students, including 8,383 girls from 255 schools, appeared for the examination and 16,370 of them passed. Girls outshone boys with 98.88% pass.
“We are happy to secure the second rank in the State and we will strive to improve the overall performance in class X and Plus Two examinations during this academic year,” he told reporters here.
Out of 255 schools, 178 recorded 100% pass results, he added.

Chief Educational Officer (CEO) P. Ayyanan and District Educational Officers D. Prem (Ramanathapuram), T.K. Dandayuthapani (Mandapam) and K. Ramar (Paramakudi) were present.
Sivaganga, last year’s State topper (98.50%), slumped to eighth rank with an overall pass percentage of 97.43. A total of 18,428 students, including 9,205 girls from 280 schools, appeared for the examination and 17,954 of them passed. Girls outshone boys with a pass percentage of 98.32%.
Collector J. Jayakanthan said the district had slipped to eighth rank after 474 students failed this year and would work hard to regain its glory. The district administration would hold periodical review meetings with officials of education department and heads of schools to improve the performance this academic year.
