March 04, 2017 07:52 pm | Updated 07:52 pm IST - MADURAI

since we do not carry weather report/water level and engagement on sunday edition, it has been planned to carry it in this format. FYI

Many locations in and around Vaigai dam, Kodaikanal and peripheries of Madurai district recorded a good rainfall during the last 24 hours.

When drought was felt and summer had set in, the Friday rain brought cheers to farmers growing chillies and cotton in Ramanathapuram, while the civic body officials in Madurai heaved a sigh of relief as the city recorded 10 mm rainfall.

Apart from Madurai, Kodaikanal recorded 45.8 mm, Peranai 15.4, Melur 8 mm rainfall. The PWD officials said that the rain would certainly help in recharging the groundwater level to an extent. At a time, when the city residents were keeping their fingers crossed over the sweltering heat, the rains had brought down the mercury level.

Incidentally, there was no rainfall in the Periyar catchment areas in the last 24 hours. The water level in the Periyar dam remained at 108.90 feet and in the Vaigai dam it stood at 23.43 feet, the officials added.

The weather forecast is like there may be rains on Sunday in parts of the city and the day would remain warm.
